2018 Black Rook Merlot

A lifted nose of roses, aniseed, bramble blueberry, blackberry fruit and roasted coffee beans. The palate is lively yet opulent with crème brûlée, blueberry, blackberry, spice, licorice, black tobacco and structured tannins coating the mouth.

The aromas bound from the glass, with notes of brambleberry, cherry, sage and spice. On the rich palate, there are flavours of dark fruits, coffee and licorice. Ripe tannins support a lingering finish.

97 Points, John Schreiner

The '18 is all about the texture at this point, and it over-delivers what many would agree are the genuine charms of merlot: softer tannins and bright fruit. Black cherry dominates the wine, with toasted oak, coffee bean, and some savoury blueberry/ brambleberry in the finish.

91 Points, Anthony Gismondi
