The wine has essences of sandalwood, mandarin and sub-tropical fruits, combined with delicate floral notes of rosewater. The palate showcases stonefruits with a rich savoury texture.

Dekleva Vineyard

Southwest of the town of Oliver, this vineyard contains some of the oldest Chardonnay plantings in Canada. Located beneath Mt. Kobau and the Thompson Plateau, these vines are approaching 50 years of age. Of unknown origin, the vines are an extraordinarily distinctive Chardonnay clone named Dekleva in honour of the family who planted this vineyard.

The nose is a lovely floral affair with wet stone and mineral notes mixed with ripe tropical melons and citrus. The palate is equally intense, featuring nectarine with a dash of exotic litchi. I love the texture and mouthfeel of the Queen Taken label and its general refinement. It is simply getting more serious each year.

This complex wine justifies that faith in the Dekleva Clone. The wine, fermented with indigenous yeast, delivers a rich and savoury with notes of guava, apple, mandarin orange mingled with minerality.

94 Points, John Schreiner

From a vineyard planted in 1973, this is 100% wild ferment and it’s vinified in French oak, 50% new. This has nice presence with lovely citrus and pear fruit, and hints of aniseed and clove. Good focus with a spicy, cedary, mineral flourish on the finish.

94 Points, Jaime Goode
